How long does it take to get revision surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone ,

I had the lapband 6 months ago went to see a new dr. today and he told me he doesn't do the band anymore because it doesn't work. He thinks I'd be a good candidate for the sleeve or gastric bypass. But he wants me to go through his program which is a six month program. I don't want to wait that long to get this done I waited years before I decided on my band it's not working for me I've done the nutrition program and the physc council.

Has anyone else had this problem I'm from Mass and trying to find a good dr to do this for me sooner rather than later. I don't mind doing the program i just wish i could have the procedure done and go through the program all at once.

Anyone else have this issue going from band to sleeve?

Thanks

I'm so depressed

Hello there! Is there anything wrong with your band? I mean are you having any complications from it? I had the band for 6 years, I hated it!! My doc had me do a rapid sequence upper GI and it was determined I had complete obstruction from my band so the surgeon wanted it out immediately. That was on Christmas Eve. Because I had gone through all the requirements for the band, all I have to do this time around for a revision to the sleeve is my psych eval again and 1 visit to the dietician and an endoscopy to make sure all is good with esophagus etc. I will have completed all those requirements by Feb 14, and if all is a go it will then get submitted to insurance and from the time insurance accepts my surgeon said I'll be three weeks out from surgery. So I'm hoping for end of march/april for surgery. Can you get a second opinion? Can you explain to your doc just what you said here? It is possible that your insurance will require you to jump through a few more hoops, its quite possible that mine will too, but as of now that is what my weight loss center is requiring of me before we submit to insurance for a revision. Good Luck to you. I know how hard it is to be patient when it comes to these issues. Patience is something I don't have a lot of.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
