I got a call from my surgeons office today who asked me to make a follow up appointment. I asked if everything was okay because I still needed to finish with the pulmonary doctor. She replied "you still want to have surgery don't you?" I said yes. But I thought that it still needed to be submitted to insurance. She told me that they had and authorization code. I am assuming that means I am approved. The surgeon needs me to come in and be "scoped". Which sound terrible.

I have BCBS. I wasn't even aware that anything had been sent to them. I guess that's a good thing because I would have been a wreck while I was waiting to hear back.

Yup having an auth code means they have permission to bill insurance, so ur APPROVED...YAY!

Scoping isn't bad at all. They just send a camera down your throat to make sure you don't have excessive acid erosion that could cause problems after surgery. It's actually a good sign that they are taking that precaution. Many Docs don't.

No worries. I just prefer to hear it from the horses mouth or see it in writing.

Ok so here is the latest. I checked the mail after picking my son up from school. There was a letter from BCBS saying that not all the criteria had been met. I was all confused. After several phone calls, it was revealed that I was approved last Friday, and this letter was sent out before the surgeons office sent everything else they wanted. This was straight from the insurance company!!!!! I'm APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
