stevedallas 125 Posted January 28, 2013 ok....I am about 5 months post sleeve. I am down to about 195. What should my Protein intake be per day? I am mostly sedentary, but I try to work out about 3 times per week. I take daily Vitamins. I still do not eat much, but I drink Protein shakes. 3-4 per day, 25 grams of Protein each. But, here is my question: should I drink 3 or 4? 75 or 100 grams per day? I am 52 years old.
soocalchic 1,087 Posted January 28, 2013 What are you eating if you are drinking so many calories? At 5 months out you should be eating lean Proteins and veggies I'm 3 months out and I eat everything. Try weaning yourself off of the shakes and get some solid Protein in. stevedallas 125 Posted January 28, 2013 They are not Meal Replacement shakes. Just Protein shakes. I drink one first thing in the morning. About 8, I eat oatmeal. About 10, another shake. I eat lunch...usually meat and veggies. About 3, another shake. I eat dinner which is, again, meat and veggies. I sometimes have another shake about 8pm and a cup of hot cocoa at bed time. The cocoa is a mixture I created with dark chocolate powder and brown sugar. I have intentionally kept my food take small over the 5 months as I have a friend who sleeved a year ago and has out most of the weight back on because of how he eats. stevedallas 125 Posted January 28, 2013 oh...and each shake is only about 120 calories. 6 carbs. and lots of Water in between. I have lost about 70 pounds in my 5 months.
soocalchic 1,087 Posted January 28, 2013 Sounds like you have it figured out if this is working for you and you can live like this then go at it.. As long as all that Protein isn't causing intestinal distress then I guess you'll be ok. When do you get your Water in? seems like your whole day revolves around food and Protein Drinks.< /p>
soocalchic 1,087 Posted January 28, 2013 Ok I must have missed the plenty of Water part. Sounds like your doing an excellent job congrats
stevedallas 125 Posted January 28, 2013 All day. I prolly drink 60-80 ounces of Water a day. I think my routine is ok...but wanted to know if 100 ounces was too much and I should stick with 75 ounces a day of protien
soocalchic 1,087 Posted January 28, 2013 You mean grams of Protein right? Do a google search there are protein calculators that will tell you how many grams you need according to your weight I'm sure your requirements have changed now that you weigh 70 lbs less
Once-&-Again 0 Posted March 20, 2013 I'm curious, what brand /flavor of Protein Shakes are you drinking?
mwrarr 244 Posted March 21, 2013 The conversion for RDA of Protein per pound of body weight, for normal healthy adults is 0.4g per lb. Anything more than that probably won't hurt you, as long as it's clean Protein & you're filling the rest of your diet with healthy options. However, extra protein taxes the kidneys, so extra Fluid is essential. Water conversion is .5 oz Water per lb of body weight. Anyone with kidney issues should probably definitely consult their Dr. So basically, take your weight & divide by 2. That number will be the high end for both protein & water intake.
