Recommended Posts

I, for the first time since surgery, felt hungry most of the day. I am still on a full liquid diet and desire real food!! I have 3 more weeks before pureed!! Going silly!!!

Wow, your doctor must be really conservative! I got to start adding back regular food at 4 weeks. I bet you can handle scrambled eggs or mashed potatoes, but don't want to tell you something against your doctor's instructions.

I know!! Seems crazy... I feel like my body needs eggs or cheese. Most full liquids are sweet. I am done with sweets... ugh! I really do not understand why 6 weeks of liquids either?? Maybe, to aid in weight loss?? I have to follow Dr's order's, but oh my!! Regular diet starts first week in March. Can not get here fast enough.

When you start feeling better is when it gets hard!! I am taking in fluids very well! Its feels like an eternity until I can chew again. I have not chewed food since Dec. 25th.. I will not again until March. No wonder there is weight loss! Hard to cope with... I know its all for a good reason, but loaded with WILL!!

Puree some nice and savory homemade potato Soup. Toss in a scoop of Syntrax unflavored for a Protein boost for good measure. Many are also allowed thin cream of wheat on full liquids - try that if it's allowed for you, and add in some savory spices or make it with broth to get away from the sweets.

The long restrictive diet post op is very challenging, mentally. By the end I just wanted to chew food, even though I felt zero actual, physical hunger.

You'll get through this and forget how miserable it was once you're fighting to eat an entire scrambled egg in a few weeks. :)

That does seem like a long time for liquids! I'm on liquids now too and to have a break from sweet things I suggest Soup. I've been having some most days, just pumpkin or Tomato. Today I was so sick Of liquids and really wanted to eat something so I got some yoghurt, I'm cleared to have it now and it seems to be more filling then some other liquids. Good luck!

I just had surgery yesterday. Today was just Water. Tomorrow (before I go home) I get hello and broth. Once I'm home I can do purees for a week and will get further instructions at my 1 week...but he d as it would probably be soft foods like scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
