I am so excited to see how much weight is gone in the morning. Haha. That is very interesting and appreciate the info as I too am coming up on my first bloodwork in about 2 weeks.

Good luck and will look for you future posts.[/quote']

I'll be on Good morning America and all the morning shows telling my weight loss miracle. I'll simply explain, I took one 50,000 unit pill of Vitamin D and VOILA the weight was gone! Lol

Off the top of my head... I think 8.5-10.5 on the serum Calcium level is normal. Serum PTH level is normal about 10-65. Normal blood work usually gives calcium levels, but serum calcium levels are different...and a different test...they have to run a PTH panel to get it. I take two viactin soft chews and one calcitrol daily...keeps it under control and my parathyroids happy. Sunshine is the best way to give your Vitamin D levels a boost naturally so take a walk or sit outside and enjoy some sun if the weather allows. It was almost 80 here today so I cranked on the a/c lol

I wish I could sit outside...I live in Buffalo, NY where today's high was a whopping 27 degrees!

Prior to surgery, I was also told I was Vitamin D deficient, not uncommon for overweight people. Fat Cells draw Vit. D and leave you deficient and could make weight loss more difficult. . I have been taking 10,000 a day for about 4 months. I was also informed that it would take at least 3 months for any change in my bloodwork. I went this morning for my followup bloodwork and will be interested in seeing if the weight loss plus supplements have done the trick.

Good luck!

Since taking the Vitamins, have you noticed additional weight loss? I've been a very slow loser and haven't lost anything since 12/15. I was deficient before WLS due to being a diabetic but since having the surgery and no longer taking meds for diabetes, I thought it resolved itself, I guess I was wrong.

I get my Vitamin d from the sun. That's the reason why I started walking outside, oh and the fresh air is a bonus plus I hate taking supplements for something I can get for free :) My Vit D was low because I always stayed in the house prior to surgery and now I'm walking 3 miles 5 days a week in the sun and my energy has definitely seen a boost. I'm still a slow loser but I don't stress about that anymore.

It'd be great if I had the time to get my Vitamin D from the sun several times a week, but that's laughable for me right now!

What supplements are y'all taking and where'd you buy them?

TexasMiss- I too am hypothyroid... I was wondering, did your PCP or Endo have you take Vitamin D prior to WLS? I am asking bc mine did... PLease forgive me if you have already stated the answer to this questions, I haven't read the entire thread before posting my question to you. From what I understand MOST if not all people with Hypothyroidism have Vitamin D defincency...

I haven't notice can you buy just Vit D without a prescription?

Yes, you can. Vitamin d3 is usually what you want to get.

I was very low on vit d3 levels prior to WLS and was gaining weight. Yes, I was doing everything right. Logged food, worked out, nothing I did not log. Long story short, it was crazy. It took 4 doctors, including 2 endo's to figure it out. (Obviously not very thorough endo's). I was sleeping like crazy!

Anyway, once that was figured out, weight just literally dropped off (all that I had gained).

I continue to supplement. It's the "make you feel good vitamin."

I also want to point out that I cycle ( 1- 1/2 hours) walk/jog, work in my garden, hike. All outdoors. All that sunshine in Texas, and it still wasn't enough. :(

Good luck and stay on top of it.

Are you taking a standard dosage? How long did it take for you to feel benefits?

Yes at any pharmacy. I've even seen them in a dollar store!

I wonder about the quality of the Vitamins. Different brands, vendors, ingredients, etc.

Which ones have higher quality ingredients than others or if it even matters.

I hear you on that one, I was just pointing out they have them everywhere. I personally would buy them from the pharmacy or my doctors office.

I have been on Calcitriol for several years...it's a prescription strength Vitamin D. I see me endo on the 12th and surgery on the 28th. I'm not sure what he will have me do but am sure I will continue taking it if not increase it. When my levels get low my kidneys stop playing nice so not taking it isnt an option.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
