Stall may mean Vitamin D deficient hmm...

Recommended Posts

So I had my regular blood work done last week and I received a script in the mail from my bariatric doctor saying my Vitamin D levels were very low. I'm being put on a regime of 50,000 units a week...so basically, one pill a week for 8 weeks., Then i have to take 2,000 units everyday. Being that I received the script yesterday, I couldn't call to ask what that was about. So I decided to contact my good friend Dr. Google and I found many articles about Vitamin D deficiencies linked to weight loss plateaus and stalls. I'm not a doctor nor do I pretend to be, but this might explain why I haven't lost anything since December 15th.

Here's part of many articles: People, who are trying to lose weight, typically, do not ‘plateau’ if they are Vitamin D replete. Vitamin D directly combats metabolic syndrome so if you have been suffering from this there is hope.

I have hope....took my first pill for the week today.....so hoping the pounds are gone when I get up in the morning. Ha! :-)

Dangit! I've struggled with a Vitamin D deficiency in the past. I'll have to inquire for my labwork details.

AH HA! OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!

I have been completely stalled for over 3 weeks. Big stall with nothing going on.

I thought it might be an ingredient in the Powerade Zero I'm constantly drinking that was impacting my weight loss.

I didn't even realize it until this thread. I haven't taken my multi-Vitamin in weeks!!! THAT may be what is going on. I'll find out soon because I'll be taking care of those Vitamins again starting now.

I am Vitamin D deficient but have hypoparathyroidism. I'm curious what your blood serum Calcium level is (from a PTH panel).

Be careful about not taking those Vitamins. I've read many crazy things that could happen for not taking them it's got me scared silly. Just yesterday a friend told me she knew someone who didn't take the vitamins and follow directions and his body shut down where he had to learn to walk again and was in hospital for 10 months. I had forgotten to take my Vitamin and when I got home, that was the first thing I did! Take care!

They just prescribed me 50' date='000 units to take once a week. Hopefully that is why it is going slow.[/quote']

I just read the label and I'm taking 50,000 units too! Lets see where this goes.

That is scary. I know Vitamin B12 is critical, so I'm very good about getting a monthly b12 shot. I don't have any reason nor excuse for not taking my multi-vitamins. I'm good about so many other things I really don't know why I have allowed myself to skip these. Thank you for the info.

What should it be..my doctor gave me a printout of my lab results. Unfortunately I don't remember everything he said when we reviewed the results together.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
