Tired od sweet,sweet protein shakes

Recommended Posts

I've read some mention that they use a good quality unflavored in Soups or vegetable juice. I have not tried this yet, but I'm getting some unflavored this week and ready to start experimenting. I CAN tell you that you don't want to add to super hot liquids.. or the Protein won't mix in.

Also someone on here mentioned that you should give it a few minutes to let the flavors blend and it kind of takes away some of that "protein" flavor.

let me tell you today is my last day of the 10 day diet...last night and today I had to choke my shakes down...I have a Protein cream of chicken Soup I forgot I had in the cabnet....wondering now if I could of had that in place of my shake. .I do know one thing, it sure made the chicken broth taste good at snack time. Surgery is 8am in the morning, gotta be at the hospital at 6:30am.

Today is day 1... I'm not hungry...just craving everything! I'm not sure how I'm going to choke these down for 13 more days. I just keep telling myself that this is temporary...the first step to improve the rest of my life. Sorry I don't have any advice but hang in there!

I hated Protein shakes!

One of the only ones I could stand was Pumkin pie flavored. I added 1/3 cup canned pumpkin, 1 cup milk, some pumpkin pie spice and a scoop/ pack of vanilla Protein Powder (you could also add splenda or vanilla extract to taste)

This was not too sweet and really hid the nasty protein flavor :-)

I am nearly 4 months out now and I have been eating all my protein for some time now so don't worry this will end someday :-)

It gets easier as the days pass. It was tough for me the first 4 days but then it became like second nature. I couldn't eat much prior to surgery because I was so nervous so the last week of all liquids was much easier for me.

Try Knorr Caldo de Pollo bullion. It makes a yummy chicken broth. They also have a beef broth.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
