oklafarmgal 31 Posted January 27, 2013 I don't have a surgery date yet, but meet with the surgeon next week to set a date. My biggest fear in this is not the surgery, it's finding a Protein I will be able to do. I have read some many things saying that they are so sweet, or they are fruity. I could do a fruity one a day, but not the super sweet stuff. I feel nauseous thinking about having to drink something like that on a daily basis. I have to find one with the least flavor to add to whatever I'm drinking. Please, any suggestions. Let me know what you vets have found to be the best for you. I've got to get this figured out, soon! Thank you!
DanaInNewOrleans 513 Posted January 27, 2013 Hi, I'm not a big fan of overly sweet shakes. My favorite Protein powder is Syntrax Nectar chocolate Truffle. I don't find it overwhelming sweet but sometimes I add more low carb milk to cut the sweetness or use just 3/4 of a scoop. It works for me. ~Dana 2 oklafarmgal and Googler reacted to this
ISleevedIt 380 Posted January 27, 2013 Unjury makes an unflavored Protein Powder and they have a chicken broth also. I bought them in preparation for my surgery. I had to show the nutritionist what I would be taking after surgery. I go on Tuesday for my appointment with the surgeon. I should get a surgery date then! It's starting to feel real 1 oklafarmgal reacted to this
oklafarmgal 31 Posted January 27, 2013 I am definately going to try the Unjury brand. I can do the unflavored and chicken broth alot better than the sweet ones. I am just going to make sure that insurance approves me before I buy any. I'm just trying to get my "ducks in a row". Thanks for the info!! 1 DivaNurse reacted to this

You can get sample packs of the different Protein powders that'll let you give them all a try before deciding on which route you want to go, and they're worth every penny. There are also pre-mixed shakes from several manufacturers that some people tolerate a lot better than the powders. Try everything you can get your hands on and find what works for you before your time runs out. It flies by quicker than you think. 1 oklafarmgal reacted to this

Thank you! I felt the same way, it was hard finding something I like, but I tried EAS strawberry and vanilla and I must say I find them quite Delicious. No funk after taste... 1 oklafarmgal reacted to this
SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted January 27, 2013 I use jay robb chocolate in my coffee and it's enough to sweeten up the coffee, but not overly sweet. Also a few have mentioned that they buy unflavored and use in Soups or v8 juice. I'm going to start experimenting with unflavored next week and see what I can come up with... My surgery isn't for 6 more weeks but I'm on a high protein-low calorie diet until then so it gives me LOTS of time to get used to the protein... and I'm SO GLAD I am doing this now. 1 oklafarmgal reacted to this
