How much weight will i lose?

Recommended Posts

I'm a man age 38. I weigh 328 pounds, and am 6 feet tall. My BMI is 43.9. The weight tables say my normal weight is 146-185. (I'm very big-boned, so that seems low).

I am very active. In fact, I ran 6 marathons in the past five years (during one of my weight loss periods).

My question is for those sleevers that have been through this…

How long will it take me to lose 50 pounds?

75 pounds?

100 pounds?

What is an ultimate realistic weight for me?

Thanks for the help. This site is awesome, and has helped me with a lot of my fears

Jason, everyone's body will lose the weight at different time frames. Just know that the weight will come off if you follow the directions of your surgeon by eating healthy. Actually, the one great thing you have going for you is that your a man..... Men lose weight at a faster pace than us women...... So sit back and enjoy the ride and please take your weight loss on a day by day basis..... I know your going to rock that sleeve!

It comes off fast but not overnight. l remember being a month out and thinking- "why am I not thin? I never eat!" Now that I am 4 months out I can't believe I lost so much so fast. I guess it is all relative! I think men lose faster than women. I have lost 56 in 4 months, I have female friends who have lost 100 in the same time frame.

yep, you "men" have it easier "sometimes/usually!!!" getting rid of the devil

weight might/will/should come off quicker in the beginning, for a while, but then it might slow down a bit :( , but be steady (maybe a stall here or there :() but thats ok, really - its part of the new sleeve life that we all must deal with

its true, we all lose weight at a different rate/speed - but it will happen!!!!

god grant me patience, just hurry up about it !!!!!

never compare your weight loss, time period et al with any other sleever - on board - we're all different

the one thing we all have in common is that we're all different :)

you will feel so much healthier and happier while you are losing weight :)

glad you are enjoying the board - the more the merrier :)

sounds like you are pre WLS right???

good luck with surgery

speedy recovery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
