So.. I'm almost 7 weeks out and I need advice!

Recommended Posts

Like the title says, tomorrow I will be 7 weeks out. I had my surgery on December 10th. I am having trouble finding foods to eat that are higher Protein, but still have lower Carb and fat content. Can any of you recommend what your favorite things have been post-op? I've been doing Greek yogurt, chicken breast and egg whites a lot, so hopefully someone has some other suggestions for me. I appreciate any insight you can give me! Thanks in advance! :)

Eta: if anyone would be willing to share their typical day's menu, that would be awesome! Thanks again.

I heard about those and saw them last time I went to the grocery store. I didn't get any though, because the sodium content worried me. Frozen meals are usually loaded with it... It seems like the more sodium I eat, the less weight I lose.

I eat Beans very sparingly because of the carbs. I do enjoy them, but when I eat more than 20g of carbs a day, my loss slows down. How are the carbs in the edamame?

I do like to cook, but would also like some fast options, if anyone knows of any. I have this blog bookmarked on my phone for reference. She has a lot of ideas/recipes that I want to try.

The edamame has 12 g carbs, 9 g Protein. I know their high in sodium...but I still never even touch the daily allowance.

Have you tried some Shashimi?

Is this like sushi? I seem to have a lifelong seafood aversion.

Yes. Sushi without the rice. Excellent source of Protein. And is very easy to go down and digest.

I used to also have an aversion but I got over it by keeping in mind my food menu would have to change due to my WLS. You can do it!

How do you season it? I've never had it before, but I'm interested in trying it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
