What to bring to Tijuana?!?

What is a spirometer?

It's a portable device that you use to breathe in to open your lungs

My doctor requires us to start using the spirometer a week in advance, so we have to purchase our own and also bring it with us. Good point about the phone numbers and the ones. Need to go break my 20s.

I'll be going to Tijuana alone and am wondering what to do with my wallet, tablet, id, etc. while I'm in surgery, recovery, and wandering the halls at the hospital.

I have heard a lot of people saying that they had a suitcase that they could lock. I don't know what you would do with the key though while you were in surgery. Maybe a suitcase that has a combination lock? Look up icon23. I believe she posted about what she did with her stuff during surgery at Mi hospital.

I've been trying to figure out what to do about a cell phone in Mexico. Everything I've read says that it is ridiculously expensive to use cell service there. I'm planning to turn my cell phone off the minute I leave San Diego airport! Do you have any suggestions for the best way to use a tablet computer and wifi to keep in touch (other than email)?

I noticed on my paperwork from Dr. Garcia that there is a 1-800 number listed for Mi Doctor Hospital. Can someone in the US call that number to speak to a patient? Also, does the Marriott have a similar 800 number?

Thanks to all the Tijuana veterans for taking the time to help us newbies!

Anyone want to chime in about your level of boredom? I keep thinking about bringing a crochet project (but will I be able to focus?) or a book? Bringing our tablet and it has some games on it. How much "busy work" did you need to help the hours pass? Or your companion?

Ok you really don't need much . The clothes you where there and something to sleep in that night and then when your in the hospital they give you a gown . After surgery when I was up walking around I put shorts on and wear them the whole time under my gown in the hospital . I went alone and I was fine . Call your cell phone people and let them know your going to Mexico and they will set you up with something . Don't worry about you things no one will take from you. I had my cash and card in my bag it was fine . I left my jelwery at home they are so nice there Dr Garcia is great. You can use the hospital phone to call your family . At the Marriott no phone you can use for free that I find .. The halls in the hospital are small the whole place is but it a great place and everyone is really nice . Good luck to all ..

The last time I went to MX I didnt get the international plan because I didnt plan on making any calls. Unfortunately, my paypal account was hacked while I was there and I had to call thyem (on hold a long time) to report the problem and then call my bank to put stop payments on the transactions.

The bill for this was $170!!!

Get the International plan. It is like $10.

I also recommend bringing neosporin and an antiseptic spray so you are able to care for your incisions while back at the hotel. I went through Ready4Achange and they provided tape and gauze.

I wasn't too bored they have a tv and some American shows that is what I did the when I wasn't walking :)

My pay pal account was hacked a few weeks ago and I think it came from this site. So, Everybody please be extremely careful about what you post. Make sure your PayPal account is not the same password that you use for this account. The same night that I got hacked I started been getting weird text messages about weight-loss surgeries that were not even spelled right. Not sure but just have a strong feeling that it came from the site. So everybody please be extremely careful.

How did you take care of your incisions, especially while you showered? What regime did you do?

Thanks!

I've never had to wear compression stockings before, so I had to google all the different sizes and uses. I finally decided what I needed and went shopping online. Boy oh boy, they are bland and UGLY for the most part! I finally discovered some blue leopard print! Ordered them from rejuvahealth.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
