So I'm 2 weeks post op and for the last few days I've been having this weird pain on and off. It's on my left side near one of my incisions, it isn't so bad where I'm rolling around in pain but it can get uncomfortable. The best way to describe it would be a sharp stabbing/pulling sensation and it only seems to happen if I'm laying down and want to turn over or if I'm trying get out of bed. I have a pretty high pain tolerance which is why i haven't called my surgeon. Has anyone experienced something like this?

I am 4 days out. Actually more discomfort than I anticipated. Definitely, call you doctor.

It's the internal stitching, most likely. Mine got so bad at one point that I went back to my pain meds for a day and took a nice, long nap. A good six to eight hours later, it was fine. Unless your pain is accompanied by any other symptoms that would indicate infection or other serious issue, it's probably just the healing process.

It also could be part of the healing process I was told...namely cut nerves and tissue and such that do regenerate. I had the same experience last night and it was not directly at the incision site so I assumed this is what it was...it is gone today

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
