tascswimming 4 Posted January 25, 2013 Has anyone had a problem with a doctor refusing to do the surgery because of worries about diabetes. My sister's last A1C was 11, she has been working hard and her blood sugars have been responding and going down. We wanted to have our surgeries on the same day and we are scheduled for Feb. 4. I know I can have my surgery I am worried she won't be able to.
ascooke 50 Posted January 25, 2013 I also was an 11 and had to get below 8 before surgery, I did by staying below 1200 cal, and 100 carbs per day. My sister and I also wanted to be sleeved the same day but insurance issues got in our way but we were sleeved one week a part. 1 Tay reacted to this
WillowsAngel_32513 70 Posted January 26, 2013 It is very possible that she wont be able to bescause high blood sugar makes it fifficult for the body to heal correctly.... Best of luck
ShanRN 58 Posted January 26, 2013 Surgery is still very much possible. She'll just have to be diligent post op to watch for signs of infection. I find it odd that some surgeons would require reasonable A1Cs for this procedure. Part of the reason why I'm getting it is because I haven't been able to control my diabetes with the conventional methods!
