Get a little FYI

How much is your deductible and copays

Copays every time you go see your doctor nut phsy copays ever time

And don't forget co-Insure payment

And co-pay for all after care

Co-pay does not come out of deductible

How much does that up to

But wait there more

What about the roller coster of being unhealthy for another 6 to 10 months

Bet that doc forgot that one

If I were you get it done sooner then later

If you could clone your self the skinny one that went to Mexico would say why you wait

I sleep on that one

Get healthy now what are you waiting for

I am a nurse and had my done in Mexico the us surgeons can not turn you away its the law

And you could sue them for malpractice for not treating you in the us

I call her bull:/3t she is a salesmen if she has no clients she has no job

sleep on that

Amy,

I'll be going to Mexico for surgery next month, but only after I did everything (6 month supervised diet, fitness, nutrition, psych eval) and hoped, hoped, hoped that my insurance would approve the sleeve by the time I had finished it all. Well, I'm at the end of the 6 months and insurance still won't approve the sleeve for me, so I'm taking the financial and emotional leap to Mexico. But the six months have not been wasted: I've learned a great deal along the way.

Also, the six months went by faster than I thought they would!!

I always enjoy your posts, Amy... please stay with us on the Mexico forum as you move forward in your journey.

I appreciate your view.

It's a 6 month diet, not a 6 month prison sentence to my fat suit, silly. I can lose weight in this time, I don't have to stay where I am. Sure I won't lose as fast but that's fine. I don't have any co morbidities, so it's not like my obesity is killing me in my sleep. Although its not doing me any favors either.

I'm not sure how many appts there are before the 6 months is up. I imagine it won't be over $500, and it's small amounts here and there, instead of one big was of cash that REALLY should go toward our credit card debt that IS smothering us. Even if the surgery ends up costing $5,000.00 after jnsurance, I can pay that in small payments too.

Actually surgeons and doctors can refuse to accept patients, they do it every day. A hospital on the other hand, it is a life threating emergency can not refuse treatment. They must stabalize you then they could transfer you to another hospital.

Amytug - my insurance covers the procedure if your BMI is over 35 and you have a co-morbiity not managed by medicaion. My bariatric center read the policy and said, "We have never had an insurance denial." They were SHOCKED when I was denied by insurance. I my BMI is 35/36 and I have hypertension that is managed with two meds. So, if I had a BMI over 40, it would have been covered. Regardless, I completed the program and learned a lot. Even if you are denied surgery, you will still have the knowledge of your bariatric program. And closer to home!

So, the upside for you, is if you go through the program and are denied, you are already educated on Mexico. I see this whole thing as a positive! Good luck!

Weird. I'm the queen of "something's not right" And nothing seems fishy about this to me. How would this nurse benefit? They are ridiculously thorough, they really know what they're doing. . I really have faith that this is going to work out. I really don't see why it wouldn't.

I only have to gain 7 lbs. that's like 2weeks of eating what I want in large quantities, a large Chinese meal and 2 tall glasses of Water to hold in my bladder for my weigh in. I dont like it. It actually feels really gross, but It will come off in 2 weeks on the Atkins diet. I think I'm willing to take one for the team. Seems minor compared to 6,000.00 and 6 days thousands of miles away from my family. (Shrug)

For clarification; I'm not choosing this route because I'm scared that no dr will touch me with a 10 foot pole. It's because of the financial reasons, and sticking close to home. It honestly just feels right. And I'm 99% skeptic.

I think that most bariatric surgeons' offices are very knowledgeable about the requirements of the different insurance plans. It doesn't make sense for them to spend alot of time with you if your insurance won't approve the surgery..because that is where they make the big bucks! One word of caution: the requirements and coverage for the surgery could change once a year, after open enrollment, at the beginning of the "benefit year". Normally the coverage doesn't change, but if a plan is trying to keep premium costs down they could tighten up the requirements for elective surgeries.

Idk, Queen Somethings Not Right... Lol!

Perhaps you are the recipient of a little bit of envy? I will be the first to admit I felt a simultaneous flash of happiness and a bit of envy at your opportunity to stay home for your WLS. I would if I could.

When we made the choice to go to Mx we knew we were stepping out of our comfort zone (home) to do this. I'm not referring to quality of care... just familiarity. Home is home. I'm happy for you and you have a Plan B in Mx.

Still, research your choice with same fervor you did Mexico. It can only benefit you to do so.

Don't go disappearing on us tho!

Aw I didn't think of that. (Hug) it could still fall through for me, anything is possible and hey! You don't have to gain, or wait 6 months. :). Thx for that point of view though.

O,I'm still going to research surgeons, that's part of the fun!!!! :D dr. Roger de la torre gets good reviews here and "that other message board" I'm still going to poke around. :). And I'm sill around. This is the busiest mb I've ever been a part of and I enjoy most of the people. Lol

I wanted to say, I don't remember of I mentioned it earlier, that I can lose as much weight as I want to in the 6 mos after the initial weigh in. This makes me happy. Ican stick o a diet for 6 mos.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
