Yea, their approval process is pretty fast. As long as you have one of the qualifers like sleep Apena. I got approved within a week. But thier co-pays are pretty high. Between the doctor and hosptial, I've spent just under $5000.00 for the surgery and pre-surgery tests.

PS - I have not regretted spending one penny of the money.

PPS - Looking at the monetary side, I expect it to take about 3 - 4 years to break even on the cost of WLS - If you take into consideration the amount of money I won't be spending on food each week.

Oh wow thats crazy mine covers all except 1,200 of the surgery and it's either 90% or not to exceed the twelve hundred. Since I paid my deductable already my total cost is 700.00

Congrats on the quick approval!

I also have BCBS of TX. My first consult with the surgeon is this Friday. She is going to verify my insurance, which takes about 48 hours. I am scared though because my husband works for a small company and when I gave her the letters and numbers of the policy number, she said that most of the people who's policy number starts with those letters has a policy that does not cover weight loss surgery. There is still a chance I guess, since it is a new year but we shall wait and see. Fingers crossed!!

I have BCBS?TX and this is good news to hear. Ijust have to do my pscy concult and then we can submit. I have met the deductible and they pay 90% of hospital cost and 80% of physician fee.

Congratulations to everyone approved! I had my surgury on February 7th and have just begun and I am so happy I did this, and you will be too. I have a sister who needs this surgery so badly, she has more than enough medical issues to qualify but she works for the City and her BCBS won't cover it. I just wondered if anyone has experienced this road block and has a solution besides just paying for it outright. Thanks.

Did you get your $5000 copay waived? Where are you getting your surgery done? Thanks!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
