Feb 11th! Excitment, Nervousness and questions

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I got my date for Feb 11th in Kaiser South San Francisco. I am excited and nervous. It seems soo soon! I have a couple questions about sleeping and sitting on the floor. At home I sleep on a futon on the floor (prefer the floor for my back). Is this going to be an issue when I return from surgery? Should I plan for a bed?

Also, how soon can I get back to sitting on the floor. I play an Indian instrument in a seated position and play every weekend. Would I be restricted in doing this soon after the surgery? Basically would getting up and down from the floor be painful?

Thanks, I am sure I will have more questions. I appreciate this communtiy. :)

Hello fellow Bay Area sleever! I'm in Los Gatos..

As far as sleeping on a futon on the floor you may want to sleep propped up for a couple of days laying completely flat can be a challenge at first.

You will be sore and should not put to much strain on your stomach, my concern would be from trying to get up from the floor ( using stomach muscles, twisting) . Even driving was putting strain on my incisions ( turning the wheel)

It took me about 3 weeks for the weird pains to get better .

Good luck on your journey!

Everyone heals at different rates so it is hard to say how long it will take for you to be able to get up and down from the floor without problems, that being said I was able to go back to work as a paramedic after 2 weeks, obviously my job involves a lot of moving and I didn't have any problems at that point, with the exception of the first time or two that I got down on the floor to treat a patient when I got up my balance was off from what it used to be making for some interesting times getting up. Also I had to sleep sitting up in a chair for close to 3 weeks due it being very uncomfortable lying flat. Good Luck.
