I had the gastric sleeve October 23, 2012. When I debated about having this surgery I decided if I couldn't conform to all the rules for six months I would never succeed and there was no point in the surgery. So as I jumped through every hoop for my insurance and had to wait their six month wait, I changed everything. No soda, no caffeine, all Protein diet, waiting 15 min after liquid for food etc etc etc. I did it all and managed to take hold your breath my 399 lb body down 48 lbs by my surgery date. I had promised myself I would lose 40 and everything else was gravy. I then lost 17 post surgery and I was thinking piece of cake! So now I am down 25 since the post weight loss and its slow moving. All those doubts did this work did I some how stretch my sleeve. What if 90lbs is all I get would I be happy with that!! Hell no!!! I want to look and feel normal! For many here 100 is their goal for me its still at least 100 to go. It can sometimes be very over whelming. What can you do but keep going. I didn't get here over night and I'm not going to lose it that way. Big family wedding in Feb and still feel all those same insecurities from 90 lbs ago. Who would have thought?

Step outside the box and start loving yourself, this is first and foremost! I have never been insecure and have always been comfortable in my skin no matter what size. I have in the past mentored young adults and this is a book that I suggested they read. If you are interested, here it is:

You will do well at the wedding, have fun!

I too have the same insecurities.. Im so afraid of gaining wt.. Im post op dec 20. Im down 40lbs.. for which my doc says is excellent.. but I dont see the change when I look in the mirror.. even tho my hubby says its a huge change.. you can see his wt loss also.. he did his a week later than I did.. and he is down 39lbs.. he is already looking skinny.. My wt loss goal is to lose 150lbs.. and they asked me if I didnt lose that much and would I be happy weighing 170lbs.. I said sure cuz I havent weighed that since highschool.. but I know this is working and I know its been the best thing Ive ever done.. I guess one day im gonna wake up and say.. who is that person in the mirror..and go OMG its me!!.. I have a great support system in my hubby.. who loves me no matter what I look like.. My doc says the weight will still continue to drop off as I advance my diet.. so im gonna trust him on that one.. oh and going to the gym will help too.. Im starting that here soon.. so maybe if you arent going yet.. think about that.. it will help take off more weight and build more muscle tone too.. best of luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
