Nervous about eating

Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery yesterday and today will be my first day sipping on clean liquids along with taking nibs of Jello. I'm scared on how my stomach is going to react. Any suggestion on how to handle my first sips and bites?

You'll be fine. Just go really slowly. I was amazed that I felt full after two or three spoonfuls of warm broth but immediately post op your stomach is still very swollen.

How long do u guys take after eating in order to drink? Anyone do both at the same time? I hear you need to eat then wait 30 minutes, then have your drink? How do you guys do it?

Even now there are times I cannot eat and drink at the same time. There simply isn't room. I can either eat my portion of food, or I can have a drink.

The only time the drink flushes my food down would be exactly when I don't want it to - things like chips, Cookies, popcorn, etc. - slider foods - that a drink will wash down. So I also try to avoid drinking if I'm splurging on a junk food like that. It's easy to mindlessly eat more than you planned if you're drinking a drink while you snack. I'm careful to portion out my food because of this.

For a really long time you'll want to just eat or drink. I can drink something like Water all the way up until a meal, and then not drink during the meal. I'll wait a short while (maybe twenty, thirty minutes) after I eat to resume drinking.

If I drink within about 20 minutes of eating, I can't eat and I get a very uncomfortable feeling which usually causes me to get the slimes and vomit. Usually have to wait about 30 minutes after eating.

If you are scared of the Jello just hold out on that. I was actually told NOT to do jello because its not liquidy enough. That being said, I know different people are told different things but if it puts your mind at ease, just hold off on that. I suggest warm fluids. I am three days post op as of this morning and warm fluids feel better than anything else. The cold stuff makes me cramp.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
