Dont be a tough guy - take your meds

I need some advice please. I was sleeved at the end of July and with a stroke of bad luck at the end of October I broke 3 bones in my ankle... I had open reduction surgery to put hardware in my ankle and was on strong painkillers for 2 months. The ortho surgeon moved me to Tylenol 3 for 2 more months. I saw him the other day and he said quit taking T3 and start taking advil for pain. I explained to him I'd had WLS and I was sleeved and have concerns about taking Nsaids. He said it was o.k. My problem is this, although it is working ok for the pain, it's giving me a bad stomach ache. I've read here to stay away from advil due to possibility of ulcers. What should I do? What do ya'll suggest?

with NSAIDS and weight loss surgery, you have to do a cost/benefits analysis. It is deal to never take them, but some people need to because of pain issues. However, if you are already getting stomach aches, I would discontinue use. If I am right in understanding, this has been over 4 months ago now, are you sure you can't manage on your own at this point?

I need the pain mess at the end of the day to help sleep. Getting up and down during the day from a chair or bed or whatever leaves me very sore at the end of the day. I take one teaspoon of the liquid Percocet I took home with me. Each day gets better!

Good. Hopefully you will be back to normal soon. Pain is really hard to deal with when you are trying to sleep because I know at least for me - its all I can focus on, and when I am focused on something there is NO WAY I am getting to sleep.

NurseGrace, I broke my ankle 4 mos ago and have been on several diff. pain meds constantly since then. I've not had any pain meds in over 48 hrs other than ibuphropen and my pain level is sky rocketing after being on my feet grocery shopping for an hour. I broke down and took a T3 a few min ago, can't stand the shooting pains going through the ankle. And I knew if I took the IB i'd be bent over with a stomach ache since I skipped solid lunch today and opted for a Protein Shake. I think I'll give my WLS surgeon a call tomorrow and ask him about the nsaids. Thanks so much for responding.

Rob, my doc said I could take them for Migraines ONLY with a full stomach. I've been too nervous to try it, myself. Hope you feel better soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
