Does weight watchers count as a medically supervised diet? I have paid over $9000 to Lindora medical over the past 10 years, I wish they would count that but the last time I did it was 6 years ago between my second and third child.

I called my insurance today to inquire about WW and they were not very helpful. Does anyone know if I go to my PCP and start WW if they will consider my weight with the PCP as my starting weight or the weight at my consult with the surgeon on Feb 15? I am really eager because my goal is to have surgery by May 15, otherwise, because of work reasons I would have to wait until Sept 1 and I really don't want to wait that long. Also, I have done Lindora Medical like 6 times over the past 10 years. Do you think they would count that or does it have to be immediately preceding the surgery? I have BS of California.

Hi there. I only know that every ins is different. Ask the ins referral people where you are having surgery. They are the most familiar and can find that out. Many here, I've read, had to do a weight loss program with the doctor monitoring them like weight watchers but having the doctor do the weigh ins... ???

Best of luck to you as I'm not even sure what hurdles I need to jump through yet! :-/

I am scheduled for my seminar on Feb 21! A lot of emotions. Disgusted with myself for having to do something so drastic--I am 5'6" and 236 lbs--my heaviest ever! I've had high BP for 12 years (I am 45), and I'm ready to change, become healthy, and feel good abt myself for the first time in years! I'm very nervous about losing a large part iof my stomach. It's kind of freaking me out but I know I have to do it! Does that bother others?

It's scary, for sure, but just keep reading the positive stories. Yes, there are horror stories. Try to use them to educate yourself to be prepared and investigate your doctor. Be proactive. I have been scared to the point that I've been putting it off but I'm ready now. It just took a lot of reading and research to get me back in the process. :-) going full throttle! Lol. Good luck!

Sleeve believer, losing part of my stomach terrifies me for sure..and it depresses me that I have to cut out 80% of my stomach and eat a 1/4 cup of food for the rest of my life but being morbidly obese (228 and 5'3") depresses me even more.

In have wondered about not being able to eat certain things and my stomach so small but then on had to think…why do I ever need to be able to do that again? That's what got me in the boat I'm in. food can't be our comfort any more. Doing fun things with our families and not being dead tired, out of breath or not fitting in an amusement park ride will be our new comfort! We can do this!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
