Hello

My name is Debbie, I just went to the Seminar myself, so I am in the same stage, I have a boat load of emotions about all of it, but damn if I am not ready to change the quality of my life.

Where are you from?

I'm in the Los Angeles area and I too have all kinds of mixed emotions but will go through the motions and continue the research until its a go or no go situation. :-) I've had weeks where I was excited and ready and times when stories scare me and I get physical pains in my stomach! anyway. Where are you from?

I felt the same way when I went to the seminar.. I read everything I got my hands on about the sleeve and the lap band.. so much info.. made my head spin.. then im like do I do this or not? I guess I decided that im not going to live my life over weight and be the fat girl any longer.. and Im not sorry I did it either.. it takes a lot of dedication and life changes.. but the results are way beyond what I had hoped for..and My doctor has asked my husband and I to speak at his seminar in March.. so that is way cool.. he said my hubby and I were his poster children.. made me laugh and feel honored. best of luck in you Quest to find the right choice..

I'm from Austin, Texas. Originally from Washington State. But this Texas food is so damn good, I let it kick my ass, or jump on for the ride, whatever :)

I like to hear all sides, but I know we need to focus on the prize, so I try to not let the scary stories get to me, they do a little though.

Nancy, thank you. I'm so happy things are going well for you! :-)

Leona, I hear you. I'm going to be 42 and want to enjoy this stage of my life. I've been saying, "I'll lose it by myself" for the past 10 years! Lets stay in touch. :-)

I have a LITTLE LOW Sodium and the Doc. wants me to cut my Water INTAKE BACK SOME LOL......Its hard for me to do that........anyways Im on mnth 2 wk1 of my 6 mnth diet so Im looking forward to at least Juneish my diet will be over with in May plus 14 days of the preop diet leaves me with at least june......if not June I need it in Aug. I cant do July unless its after the 4th for the preop diet because I go on vacation and dont know what I will be eating......or where were going.......No I haven't had my first consult yet but Im in No Hurry either.....I got most of my paper work done with..... The 6 mnth diet thing kinda sucks I wish it was only 3 but on the other hand my secondary is going to pay some on it and thats their requirements.......I will be GLAD when the preop liq diet is Over With and then surgery and then the postop diet and then HEALING UP GOOD and start to eat what Im suposed to learning how to eat and not drink w/ meals what I can and cant have and learning the measurements of what I can have and so forth....taking care of myself......

Slimjim, I'm in Los Angeles, too. Last week i was all pumped and ready to go and then this week I went to my seminar and left very discouraged. I'm ashamed to say this but hearing that I can NEVER have certain foods again, a bite of cake, a piece of hamburger, a taste of Pasta, a slice of bread, a scoop of ice cream or even a beer for as long as I shall live was all overwhelming to me considering I'm 35 and plan to walk this earth for at least another 40 years. But after reading this forum I feel more at ease and realize I will never be able to lose 100 lbs on my own.

It's daunting, I know, BUT I have 2 friends with the sleeve and they eat that stuff, just in moderation...a bite here or there. :-) I hear that after a year of healing, you can...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
