Cheri... Can you please share your homemade pita chips recipe? Please :)

Sorry, just saw this! I use the King Arthur Flour recipes - I've made both the organic whole wheat and the golden pitas and my family loves both. I'll say that I do think the whole wheat ones make better pita chips...just a texture thing, I think.

I make my own because you cannot buy them here and I bake 100% of my bread because we don't care for the local breads. I just make a double batch of the pitas and make half of them into chips. We use the other half for sandwiches. These freeze really well if you're not a regular baker and you decide to freeze the cooled pitas. Just thaw them in the fridge overnight and make chips from there. This also works if you won't be eating a lot of them.

Here are links to the two recipes I've used. I don't modify either of them - they work just as written with my oven.

To make chips I just heat the oven to 350 degrees and brush the pita with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt (or if I'm making fruit salsa instead of hummus, maybe I'll sprinkle with some sugar and cinnamon) and then I'll cut each pita into eight wedges. Arrange them on a lined baking sheet and bake for about fifteen minutes. Check to make sure they're crispy - they could need more or less time, depending on your oven and the thickness of your pitas.

Best of luck!

Beef jerkey and turkey jerkey- I eat that a lot. Deli ham or turkey rolls- with cheese. I do those a lot for a quick snack or even lunch. And diet hot cocoa with Torini SF Syrup. You get Protein from the milk and its YUMMY!

I have to agree. I also have been eating Ostrim lately which is a combination of beef and ostrich meat Jerky. I do not like the texture as much as regulat oberto Jerky, but the flavor is good and is sold through my surgery center. The second snack that I only use before running is called chocolate paradise energy squares from nuts.com. it is loaded with good carbs for exercise where you need it ( eg running for an hour). My standard Snacks are usually chicken sausage (3 oz) or a Protein shake with Water.

Ostrich does taste a little different. Not like beef, chicken, duck, alligator, bison, deer, bear, buffalo or boar. Tried all of those at some point. Maybe it is like Emu or Kangaroo. Who knows, never tried that. :)

I like it and just discovered it last week at Swedish hospital WLS Center here in Seattle, Wa. I am sure you might be able to buy it online direct or from Amazon.

It says on the package it is for athletes. I do not know about that. I think it will work for anyone and is very lean. 60 calories per stick and there are two in a package. Sodium is not too bad at 340 mg for two. High Protein. I found it did not fill me up the same way as chicken products, but that could be just because the sticks are thin and I chewed it pretty good. Try it out if you can; I think you will enjoy it.

it's another product they'd been selling at on line shop nut.com' date=' under Snacks, under chia seeds.

lol, with an s.com

http://www.nuts.com/nuts/

Yeah, I saw those there and thought " hmm, interesting." I am a big chia seed fan with my morning shake. Helps me be regular and with providing extra stored Water during my long runs. Highly recommend them. So I continued to snoop arounds nuts.com and then I fund chocolate covered popcorn. Danger zone! Danger zone! I have to now brainwash myself so I forget those are there even though I do order the energy squares now for running longer then 30 minutes (5k for me). One of those is perfect for giving me the energy to go from 30 minutes to 60 minutes and complete a 10k.

Do you gel them first and add that to your shake or do you just add them right in? How much do you add?

Yes, I gel the seeds for 30 minutes or they are not helpful for me from experience. What usually works for me is that I gel them in Water while I am working through 32 oz of Water in the morning while taking most of my daily supplements. After 30 minutes, I shake in my Protein shake for my first meal. This is at 6 am so works really well because the extra water before drinking the shake will make sure you do not dehydrate on the seeds. I drink before instead of after the seeds in order to keep them in my stomach longer ( stop drinking about 10 minutes before shake). I add 2 tbsp of seeds to about 8 oz of water. I repeat this for my last meal of the day, usually at 9 pm. Find a Protein Shake that works for you if you are going to take them as often as I do for the long haul. I happen to like Syntrax matrix Cookies and creme ( extended release so keeps you "full" longer) in addition to GNC amplified Wheybolic 60 Cookies and creme ( for run recovery).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
