Help from long time banders!

Recommended Posts

:help: Hi, my name is Sue and I'm new on this forum and I have a decision to make and need some help. I was banded in September 2005, developed a leak in my port and had to have it replaced in February 2006. I've been through hell with them trying to fill it because of scar tissue but my doctor Dr. MeGuid in St. Clair Shores, MI finally got it to work but told me if I needed any more fills he may have to do them in the hospital under a special type of xray. Well that was a few months ago and I haven't been back to him because of all the aggravation it is. I haven't lost any weight since my surgery and the worst part is all the food that I'm not supposed to eat a lot of goes down great (cake, pies, Cookies, candy, you get the picture) but at times even Water has a hard time going down and forget any kind of meat except ground beef or turkey which means I'm not getting enough Protein in my diet except for the shakes I make myself drink, which is getting very old and if I turn to food it's usually something I shouldn't have. I'm trying to make the decision whether or not to just have it opened and forget it or go back to him and do the hospital thing to get it working right, I've been poked and prodded so many times it's getting ridiculous but I think it may be a little dangerous if I happen to get sick and need to throw up or if I'm away from the state and something gets stuck and I can't release it. I've picked up the phone so many times to call and go in to see him but I either hang up or cancel the appointment. There are times that even if I drink water or coffee it can just spew out of my mouth and it's very embarrassing in public. Any suggestions. Sue

If I was you I would go back to the doctor and insisit that he fix you right..some doctors want to do the surgery and be done. I on the other hand have banded for 2years now no problems. A good doctor would not let this go on. I suggest finding another doctor and go to them but check them out first. Good Luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
