Hi all. I am post op (11/19) and just joined a gym (24 Hour Fitness). I cannot afford a trainer so I was wondering if anyone can tell me their workout plan or routine? So far I have been doing treadmill for 20 minutes and then I go to different weight machines to work my muscles. I swim for an hour and a half twice a week replacing the workout above. I am obviously looking to lose but also tone. Any advice??? Thank you.

Kacey B.

typically i begin with 20 minutes of cardio (elliptical, bike, treadmill with incline) then i begin my weight training for 40 minutes and that includes doing 3-4 sets on each weight training machine. a set includes 10 repetitions on each machine. i usually do 3-4 sets on each machine. i hope this helps!

That does help. Thank you. Wow... you have lost so much. Congrats!!!! What machines do you use? Do you use light weight or heavy?

Thank you! I use the all of the actual weight training machines but not the free weights like dumbells and all that. I just start off with 30 lbs then increase is about every other week or as i feel ready. It has to be enough weight that i feel a burn while completing a set. it cant be too easy! keep challenging your self and become comfortable with being uncomfortable. and even when i cant make it to the gym, i do jillian michaels workout dvds at home. Keep it moving! but make sure you eat a Protein Shake or bar or something before and after you work out or you will feel terrible! never workout on an empty stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
