Chewing gum if I am correct will help you produce gas, I could be wrong about that but I don't think so.

I had my sleeve on 1/17 and had the same question. I have been advised by two doctors NOT to chew gum for two reasons, 1 produces excess saliva which will cause gas and 2 if swallowed it can stay in your stomach for up to 3 weeks taking up much needed space. Thought I would pass that along.

I'm not telling you to chew it but... I was sleeved 12/10 and have been chewing gum since day 2 postop. It doesn't bother me and I don't get gas from it. I also couldn't tell you the last time I swallowed a piece of gum so I'm not too worried about that. It helps me during the day.

I was sleeved on 1/14 and I've chewed it twice. I had no problems however, not to say you won't. Good luck!

as with all things I think it is different for everyone and every dr. My dr. didn't have a problem with it but you should ask your dr and follow they're instructions.

It hasn't caused any gas for me either, even if it did I'd just burp because it's a necessity for me. If I don't chew gum while running on air I breathe heavier and waste and the air goes quicker.

I chew gum and drink diet soda (occasionally not like before) no issues at all. But every doctor will say different. When I left the hospital after the surgery I was allowed to eat soft foods like oatmeal, cream of wheat and even mashed potatoes (though potatoes was no comfortable for me) so I think it depends on the person.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
