Born and bred Sydney boy. Moved to Brisbane in Queensland 10 years ago. Actually alot of people call Brisbane Bris-vegas, because it's an oasis in the middle of nowhere! Where's your son at?

PdxMan - Please feel free to post a thread to the article. I'll follow it up tomorrow. National Public Radio invited me to a 40 minute round table discussion tomorrow on the air to discussion my journey, weight-loss surgery, exercise and obesity with a bunch of experts. They might kick my butt on the air but I can take them in a 5K or longer!

I wouldn't worry about this. I'm sure the 'experts' will be intimidated by your passion and real life experience.

Hmmmmm. I'm married to an "expert", and have debated "experts" here and other places on more than one occasion. To them, "real life experience" translates to anecdotal data. But I'm a natural born pessimist so what do I know.....

danyelleb -

Glad you enjoyed the article. I'm not sure I'm worth more mention than any of us here, though. We all help each other so much.

Thanks for the link! It was a good interview. I'm glad that they gave u a forum to not only talk about having a vsg, but I liked that u also discussed having it in TJ. I'm in awe. I know I've said it before, but u truly r an inspiration. The weight loss and physical achievements speak for themselves, but the fact that u r a positive voice that can speak to others about ur experience is admirable. Way to go on impacting the lives of others. :)

That's funny that people's weight loss slows when lifting heavy, I started going heavy again here recently and dropped 5 lbs in 2 days

Also do an hour of cardio which doesn't hurt

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
