Is ten lbs a month pretty standard? I am pre-op and keep wondering how fast the weight will come off. Why do some people lose faster than others? Is it all based on diet and exercise?

I've heard the heavier you are the faster you lose. Not a scientific fact, but it seems this way...

I couldn't believe it when I did the math but I am just about 100 lbs overweight. I look at the scale and just can't believe its this bad. When did this happen lol? So I see my surgeon for the first time on the 12th of February. I have already seen the dietician and exercise specialist. I just want to get the ball rolling!

I was 5 months post op 1-21-13, a few days ago. I have lost a total of 66 lbs, 10 lbs of that was pre op. Some lose faster, some slower. In answer to gonnabeaskinny's question....10 lbs a month each month would be awesome but as you can see for me it's not been that way. I lost 22 lbs the first month, 12 lbs the 2nd month, 9 lbs the 3rd month, 9 lbs the 4th month and now 4 lbs the 5th month. It slowed down for me. Each person is different, depending on metabolism. I am thankful to keep losing, regardless for sure!!

Thanx!! My personal goal is 132 lbs, I am 5'5" but would honestly be ok with 135-145 lbs. I just wanted around 130 lbs to stay a bit under in case I gained some back. I started at 249 lbs so that is 117 lbs total to lose if I lose it all!!

Thanx, and you'll do great as well, just remember you'll get to your goal, even though we have stalls (I'm in one now for the past 3 weeks) where you won't lose a pound. But, in the end it will all be SO worth it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
