Mine went fine. Didn't even realize that they had started or finished. Slept through it all. The worst part for me was getting the iv started. I have rolling veins. ;^/ I even went back to work that afternoon.

Will do! I'll be talking to a nurse a few days before to get the skinny (hehehe) on what to expect.

The EGD isn't a big deal really. I had mine done on the 16th. I have had it done before (a couple of years ago I had some stomach issues). You go in, they put the IV in, they take you back, give you the meds, and you are out. Next thing you know you're waking up in recovery. I think mine took 15 or 20 minutes tops (actual procedure time). I was at the hospital about 2 1/2 hours because of the paperwork, prep time and recovery time. The worst part of the whole thing is that the nurse missed the veins in both my hand and arm on my right arm. So I have midsize bruises (not small but not huge). She had someone else try my left arm (and they got it the first try).

I was kind of groggy for a few hours but was able to work from home just fine.

Mine was totally and completely uneventful. Didn't even get a sore throat.

Had mine done yesterday. One moment I was babbling away, the next moment they are waking me up in recovery. Never having been put under before, I was rather afraid, but this "twilight" thing was very easy breezy. In fact, I felt fine within a few hours (no longer drowsy). I had a positive experience and imagine most people will as well.

is this a standard pre-op procedure? my surgeon mentioned having a CT scan of my abdomen before surgery, but not anything invasive like an endoscopy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
