Grocery List Staples

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

When I have done low carb in the past, I have a running list of things I buy to keep stocked up on for healthier eating:

Berries

Greek Yogurt

Asparagus

Tomatoes

Avocados

chicken

Turkey Bacon

Turkey Breast

Laughing Cow cheese

Ak Mak Crackers

Citrus Fruits

eggs

Fish/Shellfish

What are your staples? Have you had to omit healthy foods because of intolerance now?

Would love to some new things to add to my list.

U don't really have any staples other than cheese and lunch meat. I love to cook and try new food. Still a foodie. I don't consider myself a low carber either. But asparagus might be tough on your tummy at first.

I've been eating asparagus (I roast it in the oven with olive oil) and it's been okay so far. I have not really delved into salads yet..hear that its not tolerated well.

I make a lot of Soups as well as stews.

One thing I haven't seen listed is PB2 - its powdered peanuts! It also comes in chocolate peanut!

If you are a Peanut Butter lover, this is a lifesaver. You can add it to your Protein shakes for a Peanut Butter flavor. Or, you can mix it with Water or skim milk to make peanut butter. And it only has 45 calories for 2 tbs as opposed to 190-200 in the same amount of peanut butter.

I'm so happy someone talked about PB2! I'd heard the expression here but didn't know what it was good for! Sounds....like a dream come true! Good for the mushy food stage 4?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
