I would try the biotene and continue with good oral care, the teeth brushing, tongue scraping, mouthwash stuff. they also approved me to use the sugar free mints to help with my horrendous breath (post surgery-it stinks) so that helps. Maybe try Popsicles too?

I am drinking (I mean sipping) Water as well as the Protein drinks, my mouth is still a little dry too. The whey Protein seems to make me feel drier.

If you do still have nausea they told me to suck on a cinnamon stick or put peppermint oil on a towel and sniff it.

I was admitted to hospital for 3 days testwere done o leak so they sent me home. Ive continued to throw up for days. My pukeing isnt caused by naseau its caused by acid reflux. I have continued to eat and keep myself hydrated. Even tho im throwing up. Its more of a dry heave so not much comes out. Im doing great with hot tea.. Decaf no sugar.. Also just bought pedialite.. It always comes back up but I keep drinking pop sicles to avoid dehydration..

I used sf Popsicles , they were a lifesaver in the first few weeks. Still ate when I crave something sweet! It does get better as your journey progresses! You will feel better soon, hang in and take this one day at a time !!

Oh man, are they telling you to take anything for the reflux? Honestly, that is better than dealing with a leak but its still unpleasent I'm sure. I do really well with hot tea too. If you get tired of whatever you have you could pick up some Bigalow green tea with peach. It's amazing.

Avoid any alcohol containing mouthwash. Alcohol = drying. Biotene has a great soothing mouthwash and they also have a line of other dry mouth products, toothpaste, a moisturizing gel (they have gum also but that's a no no). PLUS the mouthwash contains similar enzymes to the ones you have naturally in your saliva that help to fight the bacteria that cause tooth decay and periodontal disease. Dry mouth is BAD for your teeth. Dry mouth = increased bacteria + food we eat = the increased possibility of rampant decay. Like any of us need to also deal with that situation!

I dread this! I have sjogrens and already deal with dry mouth! I have biotine spray. I've not tried other products but not crazy about the spray. The gum is something you can just bite on and let the enzymes fill your mouth. I have a tiny pill called salagen and it will really cause your salivary glands go wild! I sometimes drool all over my pillow (embarrassing, yet), but if it gets super bad, I'd ask your surgeon about it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
