Had surgery on the 22nd and the gas pain is ridiculous. I don't understand why they pump you with so much. Other than that I'm fine. How long did it take for people's gas pains to go away?

I'm 3 days out and I'm on Clear Liquids, every time I have a drink (water, broth, apple juice) I get really bad gas pains. I hear that it goes away in a few days and I really hope it does. I can't drink very much because I get really sharp pains that go up into my shoulder, plus heaps of burps. It's horrible!

I'm calling my doctor tomorrow to see if he can recommend anything I can take to stop the gas.

Hi Beth, I was told that a lot of walking if you could is really good for getting rid of the gas. I'm 9 days after surgery and I experienced very little gas but when I did, walking really helped. Also I was told to stay away from apple juices until 14 days. That can also be causing gas. Hope some of the info if not all was helpful. Have a great day.:-)

I have been doing lots of walking and it makes me feel so much better!! But when I am drinking it bothers me, maybe I should walk and drink at the same time haha.

Thanks for the tip on the apple juice, I'll stay away from it and see if that helps.

I was sleeved on Monday and came home Tuesday. I have also suffered with the gas pains but I walk every hour and that seems to get it moving on out. I take really small sips too have found to big of sips gives me alittle pain..I am now only taking liquid pain meds every 5 hours for pain...does help some with the pain. Good luck to you just keep taking small sips & slow steps!! I have found every day seems to be alittle better!!

When I was sleeved in Nov the gas pains were terrible and they got worse during the week . Walk, walk , walk ... I walked slow thru my neighborhood , we walked the mall ,walmart . Gas X strips really helped too . Just know after about 10 days most of it is gone , then you'll never have to feel that again . Prayers for you

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
