My doc says no liquids at least 1.5 hours after you eat, and only drink 5 min before you eat. Don't drink during a meal at all. Otherwise, all the h2ohhhhhhhhhh you can handle.

I can't guzzle Water like I could pre-band, it tends to fill the pouch and come back out my nose. I discovered this with OJ and have had the same with cool-aid and water too. I can take big drinks but the gulping water down is a no go for me. ~Mandy

I dont have any problem with liquids. I can drink around 10 oz at once. I do get really thirty after I have been out in my car and avoiding liquids until I get near a restroom. I hate public restrooms. I only use them if I

HAVE to. I am a big night owl so I rarely dont get my 64 oz or more in.

My 10 oz in one drink isnt near a half gallon but.....

I have to drink a little slower and Im fine as long as its with an empty stomach. The guzzling thing will be your own learning curve. Some cant drink that fast. I would think that most cant. Whats the rush anyway, as long as you get your 64 oz a day, thats a lot to manage anyway! I wouldnt let that stop you from geting the band, Its a wonderfull thing to be able to loose weight.

No problem with Water or most liquids. I just don't drink anything 5-10min before eating, or within an hour or hour and a half after. Myself as I'm sure a lot of people learned the hard way about drinking during, or shortly after eating. It wasn't pretty. You will adapt though if you have the determination, as I suspect you do by even considering the band.

Its a journey well worth while.

I don't drink that much, that fast...but if I keep Water with me, which I am learning to do, I just don't get that thirsty. I can drink several big swallows, if I am working out hard, without issue, but 1/2 gallon...nope. You will learn to drink more often, not allowing yourself to get that thirsty! It isn't a hard thing. I thought not drinking with meals would be horrible, it is not such a big deal though!!!

No intention of hi-jacking the thread, but as a side....WTG Jackal--awesome results!!! I am impressed and awed!!!

Ok back to topic--the band will teach you what it likes and does not like from minute to minute...but as in all things, we heed them when lessons are learned the hard way!!! Even being banded I probably stay better hydrated now than I did before, because I pay attention to it! The more I drink, the better I lose!

Good Luck in your decision---I love my band!!

I wondered the same thing before I was banded. I have NO problem with drinking Water, as much as I want as fast as I want. I just make sure it is about 1 hour after a meal. Good luck!

I am a big-time water-guzzler too!!! OK, so I WAS a guzzler! My doc told me that drinking anything too quickly could stretch your pouch. When I'm very very thirsty, it's so hard not to, but I do NOT want to risk that!!

I am a big time Water and tea drinker also. I can pretty much drink to quench my thirst without any problem.

Of course, no drinking for at least 5-10 minutes before meals.

And my doctor ok'ed drinking 1 hour post meal. but no sooner.

I'm a huge Water drinker too. Learning to not drink with meals was a big deal for me .. probably the hardest part, but you do get the hang of it. I've never felt dehydrated, I just changed the times I drink.

I down heaps of it from an hour after Breakfast to right before lunch. Then an hour after lunch to right before dinner. After dinner though, I only wait about 15 mins before I start drinking .. I just try to make myself not eat anymore even if I feel hungry from washing out the pouch. I'd probably have 6 large glasses of water between dinner and bedtime. That said, I can't guzzle it anymore, especially in the mornings. Only time I can still drink it fast is if I'm at the gym, for some reason.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
