conshy416 18 Posted January 24, 2013 If you are a bedside nurse, wondering how long before you went back to work. Worried about being on my feet for 12 hours as well and the physicality of the job post op. Thoughts?

ladiJ 83 Posted January 25, 2013 I say if you have the time take 6 weeks. I figured I would need to recover not only physically but get on a schedule as far as fluids and Proteins. However I have heard of people returning much sooner.

jhkrn 8 Posted January 25, 2013 I was pretty tired, though! I think 2 weeks would've been better.
dolce0405 0 Posted January 25, 2013 I took off 3.5 weeks. I've been back for 2 weeks n i feel fine. I felt a little muscle soreness after the first 2 days but that was it.
CheLss182 8 Posted January 25, 2013 I work on a Cardiac Tele unit and am going back to work tomorrow. I work two 12 hr shifts and one 8 hour shift. I had my surgery on January 9th. My doc recommended at least 2 weeks off i would have liked to take more just because its nice being off with my kids but can't really afford to do it ( I used all my time when I had my son in February ) .. Physically I feel great though and ready to go back actually. I'm just on restrictions for lifting more than 25lbs until 6 weeks post op.
vwilson 13 Posted January 25, 2013 I'm an ER RN and I went back to work Tuesday at 8 days post op, 12 hour shift. I'm not gonna lie I was drained but I made it:-). Back this weekend tho......uh ohh scary :-/ Sent from my iPhone using VST
FromFlabToFab 268 Posted January 25, 2013 I was sleeved on Thursday and went back to work the next Thursday. Work ICU so had to call in some favors with rolling help but I had no problems at all. It was nice to get back to the grind n not be stuck at home. 1 LMFAO575 reacted to this
SusieK710 130 Posted January 25, 2013 GI RN, hospital requires being able to lift 50 lbs and do CPR, so surgeon said 6 weeks . 3 weeks would have been perfect to me.
LMFAO575 112 Posted January 25, 2013 RN. Sleeved Jan 9, 2013. Back to work 14 days post op, this Wed! I think it was enough. Body's sore (back mainly) but its because I did nothing but sleep during recovery @ home. I work 12 hr shifts 3Xwk. It's a task to remind yourself to drink Water & eat every 2-3hrs, but it's definitely doable! For some reason I got my menses a whole week early too :/ not cool. conshy416 18 Posted January 25, 2013 I was thinking 3 weeks and I could always go back before if I felt okay. Just trying to plan vacation/sick time. Where are you all from? Any regrets about having the surgery? I am waiting to hear back from my insurance company so haven't made a final decision. I am just terrifed that something would go wrong and I would really mess myself up. Other than being overweight, I have no health issues. But sick and tired of dieting and gaining the weight back. 1 LMFAO575 reacted to this
