Who's had their Port Replaced?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I just had my port replaced on Halloween. I was banded on March 12th and had only got one fill.

When I went in for the second one I found out that my port had flipped. The dr is still not sure what I could have done to make this happen however, thinks that may have been because I started training really hard with a personal trainer. This was in June. I had to wait to get it replaced because my insurance company changed and the new one did not cover it. I paid 5,500 for it. I was under general and was able to get a smaller port. I am in recovery now which seems to be going pretty good. I am wondering if anyone knows how long I have to wait to get a fill. It seems like I have not had the opportunity to fully start taking advantage of my band. I am anxious to start loosing again. Thanks in advance for any info!

I was banded 3 years ago. After 6 months my port was flipped and I had it replaced. At my 6 week check it was leaking. I went right back in to surgery. Every appointment I have been through 30 to 40 sticks. I have not gone back for 18 months. Well I went yesterday, Dr. attempted at least 30 times in the office then under flouroscope. He gave up and said it needs to be replaced again. I really have not heard of anyone having this many problems. They are scheduling my 4th surgery. I have lost 100 pounds, recently gained 7. I am fearful to not have the band and I'm not a candidate for Roux n Y.

My family thinks I'm crazy to consider this,,,Has anyone experienced anything close?

I had my port replaced last week in an emergency situation. There was a bend in the port tubing which made it impossible to get out the fill. I had been over filled and could not eat drink and was vomitting constantly. My surgeon performed it under full general anesthesia and used a low profile port and placed it on the right side of my abdomen. I have to say that this surgery hurt much more than the original surgery. And it may be due to the nature of the procedure, as it did start more as an exploratory surgery that turned into more. But as I lay in the hospital for four days I thought about all of you on here who have done the same with locals or office procedures and wonder how the heck you did. My surgery took almost an hour and a half.

I have a leaking port. Of the ones replaced did you all have to pay for port replacment ?

I just had my port replaced a couple of weeks ago, they discovered that there was a hole in the tubing near the port. My insurance did cover the revision. I haven't gotten a fill since the revision, sure hope it works this time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
