Seat belt extender for airplane?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know If I would have to have a seat belt extender for my flight? What's your experience with it? Asking for one?

I think it would depend on your comfort. You wont need it for long though, that is the good thing! I just took my first flight since surgery and was so surprised at how different the seat belt fit me. Before surgery I had it extended the whole way and it was tight but I was too proud to ask for an extender, now I have about 6 inches or more to spare! Hope things go well!

I've never flown so I have no idea if I will need one:/ if I do do I just ask the flight attendant? I'm nervous..

When you get on the plane the attendant typically greets you , just say I need an extender. They are usually discreet about it. No big deal ;)

I dunno if I need one tho:/

You didn't list your weight and height so it's hard to know. Do you mind if I ask you? I can perhaps go by my experiences -- if you do need one it's usually easier and less obvious to ask the flight attendant as you are getting on the plane ( they stand in the front of the plane to greet you) And the previous poster is right, they usually try to be discreet.

It depends on the airline. Delta, for instance, has longer seatbelts than Spirit Airlines. If you find you need an extender, just ask the flight attendant. It's no big deal and you'll be more comfortable.

When you get to your seat try the seatbelt and see if it fits. If not, ask for an extender and they'll give you one. No muss, no fuss, no drama.

I'm 5'4" and currently 321.5lbs :(

Hey! No, sad face!! Soon, a seat belt extender will not even be a thought!!! :)

I was about that size 12 years ago and yes, I did need an extender on most flights. Like I said, I always kind of whispered to the flight attendant when I was boarding because I felt it was more obvious to wait until I got to my seat and knew for sure I needed it. Everyone is kind of settled by then so it's more quiet and you have to catch the flight attendant as they go up and down the aisle. But that's just me.

Don't worry!!

I flew on Aeroflot once and the gap was a good six inches. I had to get an extender. I couldn't figure it out, I mean I knew I was fat but the lady next to me had SOOOOOO much extra belt space. When everyone was getting off the plane, I slipped into the seat next to me and tried that seatbelt and it closed with a few inches to spare! Not all seatbelts are the same length... even on the same airline.. even on the same plane!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
