Need some encouragment

Recommended Posts

Well... My surgery date is February 25th. I'm so so so excited! At the same time I'm so nervous. I just feel like I'm going to end up failing. I keep praying that God will help me succeed and that I will only have positive thoughts but the negativity keeps slipping back through. As if I'm not battling my own thoughts my mother has to chime in and make things worse. She isn't against me getting the surgery she just thinks I'll fail. I really don't have any friends like not even one and all my family including my mom lives 2000 miles away. My husband and kids are all I have for support and my kids are all 5 and under so I haven't even told them about the surgery. I am really excited but I just feel pretty much alone. How did anyone else battle their negative thoughts or am I the only one that doesn't believe in themself lol. How many people really do fail? Thank you for any and all support!

I think if you really want this, failure is not an option! You will succeed. I had self doubt and sometimes still do but I push them out of the way because they do me no good..

I am a slow loser and that can mess with your head sometimes when you read the headlines saying "4 weeks out lost fifty pounds"

But you know what I'm still losing. I have lost the same 20 pounds over and over again the last couple of years and then it stops I get discouraged and eat and it starts coming back. The difference this time? I lost that same 20 pounds then it stopped for a while but my "tool" helped me keep on track and its still going the right way.

Sleeve guru is right, the big difference this time is u have this amazing

tool. You r not gonna be able to eat large portions again. And when

you can finally eat all foods, by then you should be picking the best choices

and not high cal food. You will still only be able to eat a certain amount

so you will succeed! Don't worry and listen to the forums and go to support

groups, this will really help.

Good luck, u can do it!

You need to completely trust in yourself. It does not matter what anybody else says or thinks when it comes to this decision you made for yourself.. do not allow other people's negativity to even have some space in your head. You need to start telling yourself - today and every day here after- that you are ready for this and you will succeed. I am only 1 week post-op and I constantly close my eyes and see myself 12 months from now. Also- even if you had a thousand close friends to talk to - nobody understands like other sleeve patients. Get to the support groups and even maybe a psychiatrist/psychologist to help you through. A great book I have on hand - "The Emotional First Aid Kit- A Practical Guide to life after Bariatric Surgery. Good luck. And start to get to know yourself.

Thank you all for your encouragement. It makes my heart feel so much better :) I know I can do this, I have just failed at everything else but I hope with this i will succeed. I'm going to mexico and self paying and I know a lot of people are against that but i really don't have another way. I don't have health insurance so I feel like I really have no guidance. I don't even know how to look for a support group :/ I feel like a lost puppy hahaha

Aren't moms great sometimes? Mine hasn't said anything like that yet, but I'm sure she thinks it! She keeps telling me she's really nervous, but in a lot of ways I think she keeps saying that to make it about "her" again. She keeps telling me all this stuff that could happen, but most of the time she either doesn't know what she's talking about or she is referring to a band/bypass complication! My husband is really my only support. Although I am taking my mom to my consult so hopefully she can educate herself some on the sleeve and stop annoying me!

And we've all failed so you're not alone! Otherwise we wouldn't be here! If weight loss were easy there wouldn't be WLS!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
