Hello' date='

I am scheduled for 3/13/13. I am scared (especially with all the 13's involved) but was more concerned about how much, if any, pain anyone may have experienced right after the procedure.

Thanks[/quote']

My pain wasn't bad, more like discomfort. I had a morphine pump but only used it to sleep. 13 is my favorite lucky #, born on the 13th and it has always been a favorable number. I had no complications and 10 months later over 100# down, and feeling great.

Glad I found this! I am 59 (60) in May. I was sleeved 2/19 and adjusting well, healing well. I am beginning to walk on the treadmill again. I did this for health issues as well as weight loss. It is great hearing from others in my age bracket. I will look forward to hearing more from all of you.

Mastiff-Mama - it does get better. Just takes a little time. I was sleeved Dec 3, 2012 so I am now 3 months out. The slow, chew, chew chew way of eating, the little bites, not drinking before or after eating - it all becomes your new normal. We need to be kind and patient with ourselves. It's all so different from how we lived our lives for years, so it will take a little while. Good luck!!

Thanks! I've been eating real food for a week and haven't lost a pound! I actually gained 2 since I initially lost 14. I hear about a 3 week stall... Hope this is all it is and that this surgery will work for me

I'm 3-1/2 weeks out from surgery and feeling great. I have more energy, I'm walking every day. The small portions are hard to get use to but not too bad. Eating slow is a change too. I lost 16 lbs. before and 14 lbs after surgery so far. 30 lbs...! Can't wait until I reach 50 lbs. Everyone waiting for their surgery, don't worry. It is over in a flash.

I'm 56 and had surgery Feb 13, 2012. I am feeling great, enjoying life, and really thankful that I was able to get the VSG. I wish my husband could get it but he failed his psych eval - they felt he would not be able to follow the regimen. Isn't that sad? Now he's 70, about 150 lbs overweight, and is in terrible pain all the time from his knees (which he refuses to get worked on). Sometimes i think he just likes being miserable so he has something to complain about :-(

My liquid diet consisted of 3 Myoplex Lite Protein Shakes (buy in pharmacy or grocery store) per day in the beginning, later it went to 2, then 1, now none at 10 weeks unless I have a day that I need extra Protein. I could also have sugar-free Jello, sugar-free popsicles, broth, sugar-free hot chocolate, broth from chicken noodle Soup with noodles strained out, Decaf coffee, decaf tea.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
