unusual pain?

Recommended Posts

looking for a little advice out there. For the last few days I have noticed some chest pain. It's very centrally located and is NOT my heart :) I would say it's 3 inches to the right of my sternum and about 8 inches down from my throat. Pretty specific huh! It's a nagging kind of pain that doesn't seem to go away no matter what I'm doing. I can't remember doing anything that would cause it and I can still eat / drink. I'm 4 weeks post surgery. Has anyone else had this happen? Any recommendations?

Go see your doctor. Or the ER. Run, don't walk. This was my first leak symptom, the first time I went to the ER they dismissed it as costochondritis which you could easily have but demand a CTscan WITH dye or a barium swallow. If it weren't for my chest pain I would've been in the hospital much longer and wouldn't be here today. You're still in the leak window. Nothin wrong with being cautious!

and the verdict is ..... Heartburn :) I can handle that! The Dr. recommended some Tums for immediate relief (it took 7 of them to work) and starting me on Prilosec immediately. Glad it wasn't serious and glad you told me to call. I would have still been sitting around in pain wondering. I LOVE this forum.

My surgeon starts all his patients on a 6-month daily pepto, tums, Prilosec regimen. I didnt even think of heartburn! Glad you found relief!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
