Introduction from a nervous newbie

Recommended Posts

I have been silently lurking around this forum for quite some time. Finally late last year, I decided it is time to act. I am scheduled to be sleeved next Wednesday, January 30th. I am nervous but optimistic. I am a 40 y/o female, 5 feet 7 inches and 274 lbs at weigh-in two weeks ago. At yesterday's physical, I was 264 lbs.I am hoping this surgery gives me the tools and a kick-start of sorts to get some control back into managing my weight. I may not post often, but all of your stories have truly inspired me and I am grateful to have found this site.

Congrats on the switch from being a lurker to being a poster. I too was nervous about the whole process. I don't like to do anything that is permanent to my body and had 2nd thoughts right up to the point where they knocked me out on the operating table. But I have not regretted any part of the process so far.

That is so great to hear and your ticker shows some really powerful progress. I hope I will be as successful. Right now my biggest thing is getting through surgery. I have never been under, never had surgery (wisdom teeth came out under local) so I have a bit of anxiety to get past. Overall, I am thinking it will be better than my life today. Thank you for sharing.

Good Luck! I think everyone gets nervous and anxious just before surgery... I can honestly say this is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Welcome and congratulations on your decision.

I am an old pro at surgery, having had 9 before being sleeved with hiatal hernia repair. Of the now 10 surgeries, being sleeved was the second easiest. Of course, eveyone has different experiences and tolerances for discomfort. But I'm betting you'll do fine.

Most of us have no regrets. If you've lurked around this forum for some time, you know a few folks had a hard time and do have regrets, but the vast majority fare very well. Hopefully you'll be on that list!

Good luck, keep us posted.

Just noticed that you had your surgery yesterday. I hope you are feeling okay.

Unfortunately, it's been pushed to Monday because the surgeon had an office tragedy. Assistant's father passed away on Monday. I hope they are doing ok. In the meantime, I am starving! Pre-op diet is lasting a little longer than we thought. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
