I'm not due to have surgery until April (no exact date yet), but I just tried out a new cardio kickboxing place by me. I went Saturday and then again last night. I'd like to join, but I'm not sure if it's a good form of exercise post-surgery. I mean, it totally kicked my butt the two times I went and I was ridiculously sore (especially in my abs) afterward. It would be great for the cardio part of the workout, but I'm not sure if it will be as great for the muscle, loose skin part. There's no weight lifting involved.

Another issue I worry about is drinking Water while exercising (and this would go for any kind of exercising, I guess). Right now when I excersize, I tend to gulp Water. Especially at the kickboxing. I know when I'm sleeved, I can no longer gulp water. What would I do? Stop every few minutes to take just a sip of water?

Thanks for any help/input! :)

It is a great work out. I am 4 months post op and go to a boxing/kickboxing gym. It is hard core and is an intense workout. I do 2 hour long classes a week burning 800-1000 calories per class. My dr said only to do it 2 times a week right now with the amount I burn in a work out. My gym is run by pro MMA fighters, the owner is a world champion and they focus on not only the technique, but cardio and your core. You get an overall body work out. It is the best thing ever for me. I did it before surgery and after it is even better. I highly recommend it :)

Thank you! I really like the workout I get (well, like is a strong word because it is exercise, after all). It's the hardest workout I've ever done.

It is tough, but the results are amazing! It gets easier the more weight you lose. I am now doing things in the works outs that I would have to modify before... I love it! Glad you enjoy it. I also tend to drink Powerade zero versus Water during my workouts. My Dr recommended this. It is zero carbs, calories and all that, but you get the electrolytes back that you need. Being I am 4 months out I can take bigger sips, but I do drink more often then others working out. I tend to take a big gulp and hold it in my mouth and take little sips of it.. if that makes sense. LoL.

You will be able to "gulp" again! I Chug 20 oz during an hour workout. It will take about 8 months but you'll get there. The hardest part is remembering you Can't chug. Hurts bad!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
