Just scheduled my surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm Cyndi and I live in Guatemala. Just emailed my surgeon and scheduled surgery for the 26th of February. I know this is the right choice for me but I am super nervous. Of course hoping everything goes well in the surgery but I'm mainly nervous about afterwards. I've never had any kind of surgery and because of my size (weigh 450) my surgeon is going to open me up instead of doing a laparoscopic procedure. Anyone had it done like that? I'm nervous about being able to do things like get up from bed or a chair afterwards. Also about not being able to satisfy the mental hunger even if I don't feel it physically. I know it's going to be a huge change and a lot to get used to but I need this drastic change. Thankfully all of my tests have come back great and I'm healthy, but I know at this weight it won't stay that way without drastic change.

I'll be having the surgery here in Guatemala and think I have found an excellent surgeon. Anyone else get the operation internationally?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
