How to get over aversion to tracking

Recommended Posts

I have been basically eating whatever I can get my hands on without tracking. I downloaded and started using myfitnesspal today. I didn't track everything I ate today because I just got tired of it. I really like to just eat without writing it down. I want to lose 30lbs before surgery this Fall.

Any suggestions you guys? I know I have to do something.

Hmmm, if you don't eat it, you don't have to record it.

Keep persevering. MFP gets easier and quicker the more you use it. Once all your favourite / regular foods are in there it's much quicker.

My Fitness Pal is the easiest thing I have found too. Keep on keeping on! There is no other way to go about that bc we need to be accountable for what we eat. I would rather not too so I know how you feel! Good luck!

I have a rule as well. I might forget to track a meal / snack, but my rule is I can't eat anything else until I've updated it.

Sometimes I will write down my food the entire week that way its like a menu just look at it and I know what I'm going to eat if it's not on there I don't eat it ;)

That's a great idea. I will try that.

Actually I've found pre planning your food for the day is the best way to go. Make a daily meal plan & stick to it. Then you are not grabbing stuff because of a craving or hunger which will cause you to eat off plan faster than anything else.

I detest tracking too, so I try to make a game of it. I reward myself when I record my meal. I try to record my foods before I eat them. Now that I'm post-op, I find my OCD kicking in because I want to make sure I hit my Protein for the day, and Fluid levels, and etc. I don't have much advice for you except to say I feel your pain. Sometimes there's nothing to it but to just force yourself to do it. Good luck!

Thank you guys. I think it is something I'm going to have to make myself do. I like the idea of planning ahead for the day or even week. I may start off with planning the next day the night before and seeing how that goes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
