I am seven days post-op and have a shooting pain and constant pain, really, in two incisions. I have 6 total and the two that hurt are on my right side right next to each other. One, I know, is where they took the drainage tube out of. I plan on asking my surgeon what the other incision was for when I see him next week. It's funny how 2 out of 6 hurt really bad.

Yeah I got this also, its just your body healing. I used to get it if I turned or bent a certain way, it felt like a sharp pain as if someone was sticking a needle in me from the inside.

If its sore all the time I would get checked, otherwise just keep an eye on the incisions to make sure they don't become infected.

This is common for the largest incision where the surgeon removes your stomach. A larger part of the muscle has to be cut than the smaller ports for the laparoscopic instruments. It happened to me too. I found putting ice on it worked better than pain meds for me. I iced it 10 minutes every hour until it felt better.

Thanks good to know that I am not the only one! When did the pain start to go away for everybody?

I learned after breast reduction that the quick almost zing like pain is the nerves that were cut firing off and trying to reconnect. Constant pain could indicate an infection at or under the skin. Monitor your temp if the pain is persistent and note any fever. Pain around the incision with heat and redness is cause for concern and a call to the doc/trip to ER. Pay attention to the type of pain and talk to your doc. But just remember there are tons of nerves that were cut through and tons of healing going on.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
