I called my insurance company before my consultation today, and they told me there was no minimum time requirement. Today, at my consultation, he tells me I have to go once a month for 6 months to weigh in. So I'm looking at a June/July surgery. I reallyyyyy hope these next 6 months fly by. Anyone else have to wait that long?

I had 6 months of weighing in and vaious other appointments. Looking back I am actually thankful for that wait. It gave me time to get everything in order and really prepare myself psychologically and emotionally for the change I was about to make. Trust me 6 moths will fly.

I started this process in April last year and was sleeved yesterday. I didn't have to wait that long as my insurance covered me without any waiting periods but it gave me time to think, get my life sorted out and make sure I was making the right choice.

Hope it goes fast for you!

I just got sleeved last week, and I started this process in May. I had to go through the 6 month program then wait for insurance approval. It goes fast.

Same here! Six month pre-op program, and mine was actually longer because my insurance changed some criteria and I had to start over. Frustrating! But it will go by! I also thought it would never get here!

Yup, I had to wait 6 months but because of the holidays, I had to wait an extra month :( Good thing this month is flying, I'm so ready!

I had to lose 10% of my body weight in the first year and then show I could maintain it for a year before I was approved for my sleeve. (I'm in Scotland though do things are different here)

Hi,

I had a consultation in Dec I have to go to a bunch of appts before I can have the surgery. I can't have surgery until April. I think it is better that way I have to have 4 2hr classes on nutrition, 4 post op appts after surgery, I had to have a test at the hospital to see if I have acid relux. Come to find out I do. I had to have a sleep study, A blood test where they took 7 viles of blood. Plus I have go to a heart and wellness appt, and go to have a physcological appt which is like 2-3 hrs long. All and all it will be worth it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
