Recommended Posts

I have my 2 week post op check up on Wed 1/23. Just wanting to know when everyone's Dr lets them start working out?

I started walking one week post op. I now do about 30 min on stair climber and 30 walking 6 days per week and I am about 4 1/2 weeks post op. I think this is more than they want me to do but I've worked my way up slow and I feel great.

But, talk to your doctor and see what they will let you do. I was working out before surgery so they let me do more.

Good luck!

My surgeon released me to full activity at my 3 week follow-up, but I was not having any problems either....and every surgeon is different. Just be careful and don't overdo it, your stomach doesn't fully heal for about 7-8 weeks.

aerobically, I was never on any restriction... doctor wanted me up & walking within hours of coming out of recovery room... from then I was supposed to walk as much as possible and upon discharge would walk/run as much as my body could take... the only restriction I had was no lifting anything over 5 pounds for 4 weeks post-op... and nothing using ab muscles ( no situps, etc)

I started walking around 3 weeks post op. I started with just walking 1 mile and that kicked my butt and I slowly added on another mile and now I'm up to walking 3 miles, 3 times a week and taking 2 spinning classes. I've always loved workout and I was a obese runner for a while before surgery but now that the weight is coming off it's so much easier. My advice is to start slow and then slowly add on. I also had to up my carbs once I added on more exercise, so that I don't hit a wall halfway through the workout. I keep my carbs around 100g and that seems to be the happy medium where I still lose weight and I can have the energy to kick butt during my workouts :)

I was sleeved on a Tuesday and was back in the gym on the treadmill the following Monday. I just kept doing what I could manage without it being too painful. Hit 2 months out yesterday, and I do my full workout and cardio 5 days a week now.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
