Hello I'm 21 and my first consultation is next Monday!

I was wondering how long the process is until actually getting the surgery! I would love to get it within the next few months is that possible? I am self pay with cash!! Does it depend on the surgeon or is there a standard operating procedure?! Just curious! Thanks for your help!

Depends on your insurance and what requirements needed to have VSG. Surgeons office should be able to check on this prior to your consultation. If you don't meet those requirements you can self pay here in the US. But a lot of people go to Mexico for an inexpensive alternative and are pleased.

Don't be in a rush, do a lot of independent research and don't trust everything you read. Congratulations on taking a step and having the courage to make a change.

Hugs - I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

People that are going through their insurance, may have a wait time of anywhere between 3-6 months. During that time, the insurance company wants you to do a documented Dr. supervised diet. Some insurances will also let you get by with just providing the documentation, if you already have it within a certain time frame criteria.

Now since you're self pay, I think it would just depend on whatever the Surgeons office's requirements are, as well as their availability. So with that said, as a self pay patient, you could definitely have it done within the next few months depending on the surgeon. But if you have not already done so, I would suggest that you do a lot of research on your own, and attend seminars if possible. Good luck to you!

It depends also of the doctor requirements such as seeing a nutritionist and psych eval. and their schedule. I am glad mine is done and that I did it good luck on your journey.

As for me it will be one year to the day that I went to my first Consult Jan 30 2012 and to my surgery date Jan 30 2013.

I live about an hour away from The WL center and due to my schedule and my husbands ( I wanted him there at every appointment with me) at some appointments it was a few months at a time and I am so glad I did not rush it. I like to do things in my own timetable and I just think it was meant to be this way.

I got my Ins approval in mid November but I wanted to wait until after the Holidays were over also.

Good luck newbie

I have insurance with BCBS of Texad and iy only took me 6 weeks to have the surgery. I met him on Oct. 19 and had the surgery on Dec.4. But please take your time getting it, make sure you understand what it is exactly that you are doing. So that you will be prepared for after. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
