Waking up with acid and vomiting mucus with blood

Recommended Posts

I've woke up three different times since I had my sleeve. The acid starts to come up and then goes down the wrong windpipe. It is horribly painful. I take Rx Prilosec morning and night. Last night it was so bad, it had me choking and running the the bathroom try to gag it out so the pain would stop. It was all mucas with bright red streaked. Not a lot, just enough to scare me. This happen to anyone else? If so, what do you do when it happens?

This happened to me twice. I hat eaten just before I went to bed. My dr told me not to eat or drink 2 hours before bed. Not sure if that is your situation.

It definitely sounds like acid reflux to me. But you would think the Prilosec would take care of that, you should definitely call your Dr. and ask him what to do, maybe he can try a different reflux med or maybe it is something totally different. Good Luck

Sounds painful :(

I'm not sure, maybe an ulcer?

I would say it warrants a call to the Dr.

I hope you start getting better!

I had that happen to me a few times before the sleeve surgery, it was a hiatal hernia. My surgeon repaired the hernia when I was sleeved. Ive had no reflux since then.

Please see your doctor as soon as you can. If its a hernia it can be fixed.

So why not consider doing the bypass instead. My understanding is that people with acid reflux prior to surgery should not have this surgery and rather opt for the bypass. Our clinic won't perform the sleeve on anyone with reflux prior to surgery.

I hadn't considered an ulcer. I've been under alot of stress lately. So much, they doubled my depression meds, added one to it and I had to take off work Friday just to try and calm down. Seems like when you tell a dr whats going on, they just want to write you a Rx...My pill box is full.

You should talk to your doc. For one thing, not all PPI's are created equal and a different one might work while what you are taking is definitely not doing the job. Also, I am going through something similar and they are giving me an endoscopy to check out the damage and look for a cause - perhaps an endoscopy is in order. Also, my surgeon thought that my symptoms were the sign of a mild stricture and they sound pretty similar to your symptoms, so maybe a barium swallow could tell them something... It's all guesswork, but sounds very familiar to me!

I'm so sorry! Yes, it does seem like that!

Stress is really hard on our tiny stomaches. Stressful days call for tiny nibbles of melba toast through out the day!

Hang in there, it takes a lil bit before our depression meds start giving us improvement!!

Are you exercising? Nothing helps my stress like exercise, just 30 min on the treadmill makes a world of difference. Vit B is good, too. It really helped my sister after she lost a child.

Sorry you are dealing with this. Hope you get our tummy issues resolved and then some help beyond pills for depression. It is really unfortunate that medication is thrown at us for everything, especially depression, and sometimes we just need a little more than that. This time of year is tough too with it being so dark and cold. Hope you get better soon.

Yeah, this is not necessarily true, I had acid reflux and hiatel hernia repair with my sleeve and I feel great. I think it just depends on the person, body, and possibly food choice or when you eat. You should never lay down immediately after eating and if you overfill your pouch you are going to have issues. There could also be something else going on, I would discuss it with my doctor.

I cant imagine why a doctor would refuse to do a sleeve if you have reflux? The majority of people who have the sleeve also had hernia repair at the same time. Reflux is a fact of life before the surgery.

In any case, OP please do not take medical advise from any of us. Its actually dangerous to do so, none of us are doctors.

Please see your doctor ASAP.

Definitely see your doctor. It could be an ulcer or something worse. I am pre-op and have really bad reflux without my meds, but prilosec and other milder meds don't work for me. I take Protonix and it is one of the best - much stronger and helps a whole lot more. I definitely know what it's like to wake up choking on acid. Hope you get it taken care of and feel better soon.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
