How do you know if your full or its just gas?

Recommended Posts

I am 1 week out, and when I eat I can't tell if its the gas making me feel full or the

food So I tend to eat more cautious and not finish it all. Any answers?

Keep doing what you're doing. The gas will go eventually. Just keep listening to your body like you're doing.

Will this go away as I eat more?

For me, walking lots post surgery helped a lot and by the time I got to your stage gas wasn't so much of a problem. Are you moving lots? It's important after surgery, without over doing it.

Most peoples post op diet doesn't include eating for weeks. If the diet you've been given includes eating I'm not surprised it's tiny amounts and there's a little discomfort.

It's hard for me to say because I was on 2 weeks liquids and then 2 weeks puree's.

I wouldn't worry about a little gas type discomfort at this stage. But if there's pain or if it doesn't improve I'd contact someone.

It's hard to say it is probably more the air then being full because most people including myself didn't feel full while on liquids because liquids leak through the pyloric sphincter into the intestines. That being said what I found to be best was to measure out my portions and drink them not looking for full feeling at that stage. I never drank more then 8 oz of any one thing at a meal, a lot of people will probably say a lower number because the amount you can get in is directly related to the amount of swelling you have. I should also say that those meals took at least 30 minutes sometimes closer to 45 to drink because I took my time and sipped. This is what worked for me, hope it helps, good luck.

Tomorrow is my 2 month surgiversary and I still gurgle occasionally.

Regarding the original post - If you are on liquids, thats probably not gas, its FULLNESS. And if you are like me, you probably never really experienced that sensation before your surgery. Listen to your body

I'm 5 weeks out and on soft foods. When I am close to full, I hiccup. This happened even if I drank liquids too fast. One mouthful past the hiccup is uncomfortable even with soft foods like yogurt. As you progress, listen to your body. Each stage and part of the healing process is different and varies among individuals. Also men's and women's stomachs are shaped a little different too. My husband had surgery 6 months ago and he had different food experiences than me. He was able to drink all his Water. I'm still working in it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
