I still don't have an exact date for surgery. Yesterday I went for the pulmonary fuction test, got approval. Next week I go to GP, I wanted all my other approvals 1st, don't think I will have a problem getting her approval. I the required blood work this morning. My doc checks for everything under the sun. I think they took 3 vials, I don't look but felt her changing tubes. Once I see GP everything is done except the required last nutruitional class and pre-op class, I tried to do the pre-op class this month with a friend, but they said medicare requires it be last and the classes have to be stretched out over 3 months. My pre-op diet is low fat now, 2 weeks before the actual surgery date very strict low fat, the shakes are optional, but I do want to try a few so I know what I like. I bought one bottle of Isopure, fruit punch, the GNC guy said it wasn't bad, I ordered an Unjury sample pack, and got another Protein at GNC, can't remember the name. I'll post what I like after I taste them. Anyone else have a favorite yet? My friend went to the pre-op class and we get progressed to full liquids pretty quick so I am not going to worry as much about having to use the clear protein, unless I put it in food. For those who don't know too, the Unjury sample pack comes with a food thermometer and a shaker. You can add it to food, but it clumps if food is to hot, so having the thermometer will be nice. I think with shipping, it was around 28 dollars.

How long does the gas pain last? Are you guys still dealing with it when you go home or is it basically the day of surgery? One other question.... if you throw up can that screw up the new seal on your stomach and cause a possible leak?

My surgery is 2/21. I started my diet yesterday of 40 carbs or less.

Just wanted to say that I was sleeved on February 6th, and that everything went well. I won't lie, it was pretty scary, but the pain afterwards has not been very bad. I don't seem to be having that terrible gas pain that everyone talks about. I do feel it, and have some slight discomfort when it moves around, but it makes its way out pretty quickly. My worst moments were extreme nausea afterward, which we think was caused by the pain pump, as I haven't had any since I went off of it. The nausea felt horrible and was terrified because I came so close to wretching so many times and I felt like my insides were just going to shred when I did. Thankfully, I went from normal to DEFCON 5 nausea once right in front of the surgeon when he came by, so we got that taken care of right away. It's looking like I'll be discharged tomorrow. I'm scared of being discharged and driving three hours away to get home, but I'm also kind of sick of being here. RIght now, my most severe pain is my butt! It's is just aching from laying in this bed so much, and I can't get comfortable at all to sleep. I have a very cushy recliner at home that is calling my name. I'll just miss having the nurses and the amazing hospital ice. Haven't had any other liquids besides ice chips and sugar free popsicles yet. Let me correct that. THE BEST EVER TASTING SUGAR FREE POPSICLES. Seriously made my day when the nurse brought me one. The most severe pain I had post-op was actually my throat. It was dry and swollen from the tube and just a wreck. Swallowing was almost impossible, but the popsicles helped that better very quickly. I'm supposed to try a tray later today with broth, Jello, Protein, or whatever else they bring along. Kind of scared to do that, and the idea of drinking protein right now makes me want to cry, because I just don't like it and it made me feel icky pre-op. But, I know I have to, so I'm just going to do it.

I wouldn't say it hurts, it's a very weird feeling. I feel like I flopped like a fish when they took mine out. It was over quickly and I have zero pain from that site. You will be great!!!

I agree about the throat, mine was nasty after surgery. I am a few days post op and it's finally feeling better. I wasn't expecting it at all.

My surgery is 2/21. I started my diet yesterday of 40 carbs or less.

I started to throw up a few times after surgery. It was 100% from the pain pump, they didnt want me to get sick but said I was fine. They are very quick to give anti nausea meds.

Did anyone have a catheter? I really, really don't want one of those. After my c-section, I had one in for almost 2 days. Just thinking about it is like nails on a chalkboard.

I had my two hour post operative training last night where we went over the diet, shopping guide and what's going happen at surgery. Didn't realize how severe the food restrictions are. For the first two weeks there is no foods that are allowed to be chewed And I had no idea that you cannot have steak or pork for up to three months after your surgery. They gave me a list of of things that I should buy a GMC regarding my Liquid Protein intake and they also gave me a list of supplements that I'll need to take for the rest of my life but there is one of my hospital offers that I can say that's cheaper and equivalency to seven other types. Has anyone else received this information for going through that's also?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
