The texture of shrimp to me is closer to baked chicken than baked fish. It tends to be firmer & more fibrous. I won't go as far as to say you can't have it, but be ready to do a lot more chewing.

I have always wondered if it is good for shrimp tails to go through your sleeve and digestive system. Out of habit, I still eat the tails off shrimp.

Everyone is different, but I tried shrimp - shredded really fine and mixed with a little low fat mayo when I was OK'd for soft food.It was rough. I waited about 10 days then tried shrimp again, this time as shrimp cocktail - chewed it really well and it went down ok. If you really wanted to eat it, I would try a bite, chew it forever, then wait a few minutes before you try another bite. Shrimp is my favorite!! So I was determined to keep trying it til I could eat it. Good luck.

I love shrimp and it was a staple during my soft stage, I just diced it up very fine and mixed it in with eggs or plain greek yogurt. You should be fine.

I put the shrimp and mayo or humus and blend it up. I'm 8 day out and it goes down fine.

I had five grilled shrimp for dinner (central market) - I'm three weeks out! Chew, chew, chew.

Surprisingly no pain and suffering. Perhaps it is because I am 6 months out. I am going to try to not eat the tails any longer. :)

I eat the tails, and sometimes the shells. It's really good for your joints. It's what glucosamine is made from.

My NUT says to avoid shrimp until at least 6 months out. Apparently some people have trouble digesting it.

I could have tuna fish, but no shrimp or Cod etc until week 6 when I started on regular food. Shrimp is something I keep on hand, frozen in a bag, to eat at lunch some times. Fish is THE easiest 'meat' on my tummy, i can eat all, but this is the least dense. I'm 2.7 years out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
